Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis, also called degenerative joint disease, affects the smooth lining covering the ends of bones in a joint called cartilage. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage becomes damaged and worn out, causing pain, swelling, stiffness and restricted movement in the affected joint.

Patellar Tendinitis

Quadriceps or patellar tendinitis is a common cause of pain around your knee cap. It is sometimes referred to as patellofemoral syndrome. It is caused by inflammation and weakness of your patellar tendon and is generally treated with rest and physical therapy.

Pes Bursitis

A bursa is a fluid filled sac that is located between bones and soft tissues, acting as cushions to help reduce friction. Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa. Goosefoot bursitis or pes anserine bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa present between the tendons of the hamstring muscle and the tibia (shinbone) on the inner side of the knee.

IT Band Syndrome

The Iliotibial (IT) band is a thick “band” of tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh from the pelvis to the outside top of the shinbone. The IT band can become irritated during motion of the knee as it rubs back and forth over the hip or knee. Pain, tenderness, or snapping along the outside of the thigh or knee is known as Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS).
